I really enjoyed reading this book. What's funny is that we're going through an immigration issue right now and this book shows their struggles and why they even want to come to America. It showed me we're butting our noses in everyone elses business when they really need our assistance. I never really thought about Central American immigrants having to go through Mexico on top of freight trains, getting dismembered, and just being beaten period. It shows that you should be grateful for what you have.

It's crazy how the immigrants have to make a decison between living in poverty, in shacks, and having no food, and no work OR to leave them and go to America, and going on that perilous journey. I'm happy I will never have to make that decision.

New Years Resolutions

I can't believe that 08 is just around the corner! I know I have to do it big next year and begin ing things done ready to start a more independent life... next year i want to;

1)Start college
2)Get a job
3)Get my license
4)and move out.

Posadas

The word posada means shelter and the nine nights of posadas leading up to Christmas are said to represent the nine months that Jesus spent in Mary's womb. Posadas is a Mexican tradition that is done every year around Christmas time. Starting on the 16th of December they go to a different person's home every night carrying candles and pictures of the Virgin Mary. When they arrive at someone's home they sing a special carol asking for shelter. They keep doing this until they are let in. Once they are in, they celebrate. The host gives them food and something to drink (Most of the time Tamales and ponche or atole) There are also pinatas for the children. Posadas are a very interesting tradition I would like to try.

In the name of Heaven
I ask you for lodging,
Because She cannot walk,
My beloved wife.

The group inside sings in return:

This is no inn,
Keep on going,
I won't open the door,
In case you are a truant.

Back and forth the singing goes, until the verses lead the hosts to realize just who it is that is pleading outside their home. Then, of course, they open their doors to the visitors, and sing another verse:

Enter, Holy Pilgrims,
Accept this dwelling;
Not only of this humble house,
But of my heart

Points Of View, "Inez" by Merle Hodge

Stereotype-an idea of what a particular type of person is like, especially one which is wrong or unfair. Stereotype is something that everyone does everyday. You can stereotype someone without even knowing you're doing it. Just like in this story Inez was stereotyped by everyone around her. Her landlord, baby's daddy, kid's teachers, a nurse, and a police man. They all basically thought the same thing about her: she was a bad mom, irresponsible, etc. What sucks is this is what happens to me on a daily basis. Getting on the bus and seeing all the "looks" from unapproved faces. It's sad to see how they all just look at me as they did Inez. That I'm irresponsible and a bad mom because I'm young, and that I don't know what I'm doing but they're wrong. I know I'm a good mom and I don't need anyone to tell me I am because I know. It's sad how easily we can just look at somebody and just start assuming so many things about that person and not know one thing about them. We can look at a white girl in a nice car and just assume they're little rich spoiled brats from the valley, or see a black or Mexican boy with sagging pants and assume that they're from a hood. We should stop judging others and take a look at ourselves we're not perfect and we are no better than them.

Man oh Man

Well life has been going pretty good for me my man got a job!! yay guess im getting christmas presents this year!! (well i do every year but i was scared I wasn't gonna get any) but yeahh anyways other than that life has been fine my daughter has like a little cold but she's getting better!! I feel kinda weird because nobody really writes on here but me if u guys are reading START WRITING IN YOUR BLOGS DAMMIT and you know who you are I need to comment on you guys!! soo dang I haven't even talked about our girls night out!! I'll try and post some pics soon so you guys can see how much fun we were having I don't wanna go into too much details because that's private!! wellpz homitas until next time!!!

Been a while

Yeah It's been a while since I've been on here!! Just wanted to check in to see if anyone has been on here!!! Life has been okay pretty mellow everythings... chill I don't know how else to put it... Man I'm so tired of high school and I know I can do it but I'm lagging it because I have things in my life that I have to take care of too... My family. So halloween was fun!! I got a lot of candy!! I was a hula dancer, Angeliah was a tiger and Angel (my man) was a scary a$$ wizard kids were freaked out it was hilarious!! And Azucena made a surprise appearance (lol) at school If u read this I missed ur a$$ girl... Well I really can't think of anything else until next time!!!

Doubting my decisions

Man oh man.. this weekend was crazy!! Saturday was my friend Justine's kickback and let me just say it was coo as hell... well man i'm starting to really miss being with my babys daddy i know he pisses me off but i dont wanna be broken up its just all so overwhelming I dont even know what to do. I need a couple days to think everything over!!

Just another Saturday

uggh life has really been sucky lately I finally broke off a relationship that was really affecting my life... I can finally breathe and be a lot more strees free than before!! well i hope you guys are happy for me!! I feel a lot better.. wellps i went to hennessys bar in downtown for my friend Danielle's birthday it was fun!!! and my brothers baby shower wa yesterday!! It was a pretty fun day but today so far has been DRAMA but thats my life!! so marlene should be back at school monday and where the hell is azucena??
